A wild pig shot with the Aimpoint red dot sight.

Trying out a red dot sight

Recently the offer from good mate Mick Matheson to take his Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle in 308 with an Aimpoint red dot sight for a walk or two was a nice change for me as I had not hunted with one before.

The Steiner 8×30 WildLife Pro binoculars would be my other main item as I went out to check all was good with point of impact with the outfit and this was a very easily accomplished.

Over the next week three shots were fired from the outfit, firstly a feral pig at a range of 30 yards at first light, the red dot was easy to sight onto the pig which was despatched with one shot.

Next I glassed a fox out feeding in good morning light and, with a slight brightness adjustment of the red dot sight, it was shot at 70 yards.

The fallow spiker taken for meat was also out feeding in good morning light and using my back pack to steady the shot at around 100 yards, it was no match for the outfit.

A nice week was enjoyed with Steiner binoculars, rifle and Aimpoint red dot sight, Thanks Mick.
