Tikka T3 Hunter Stainless Fluted - a fine accurate rifle

Tikka T3 Hunter For Fallow Deer

Q: I ambuying a Tikka T3 Hunter in .243 Win. and am wondering what bullet toload. I am thinking about using Barnes TTSX bullets for large gamesuch as fallow, but what weight and load is best? Can you suggest aload for pigs and goats that I could use without the bother of havingto resight my rifle? Do you think the .243 is adequate for red deer?If so, is the TTSX enough bullet? If not, what would you recommend?

A: TheTikka T3 Hunter is a fine rifle and adequate for fallow deer and reddeer with well-placed shots. The heaviest bullet that Barnes makes in6mm is the 85gn TSX BT. This is a tough bullet that can be reliedupon to give deep penetration on feral pigs and goats, and mediumsize deer. A moderate charge of 44gn of Re-19 drives it out of themuzzle at around 3200fps. The maximum charge is listed as 46gn for3314fps. It doesn’t matter how powerful a rifle you use on deer, ifyour shot is poorly placed you are in for a long trailing job andchances are you’ll never find the animal.
