A grazier recently found a mob of more than 300 feral pigs eating the grain he’d put out for his sheep, but he the only thing he could shoot with was his camera.
The photo, posted on the Shooters and Fishers Party Facebook page, has caused a sensation on social media.
“This mob of pigs and feral goats was seen near Cobar,” the SFP posted. “The farmer put out grain to feed his sheep, but ended up feeding more pigs and goats, poor bloke.
“We’re told there were over 300 pigs! And not one gun, dog or knife. All they could do was watch. In all our years of hunting we have never seen anything like it. Unbelievable.”
Nope, we’ve never seen anything like it, either. Dozens of hunters are offering to help solve the problem, though.
The gather of pigs is probably a result of the long dry spell since last April, which followed a few years of good rain that allowed feral animals to breed in huge numbers.
Now that food is getting scarce, the pigs have converged on the farmer’s grain.
It might be time to buy a few bags of grain ourselves and head off to the properties we have access to…
