The federal government has announced it will try to overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Commonwealth cannot evict shooters from the Anzac Range at Sydney’s Malabar Headland.
At the same time, it will try to quash the order that it pay the legal costs of the NSW Rifle Association, the organisation that successfully fought for our rights to stay at the historic range.
“This reaction is not unexpected and our legal team are well placed to fight the case yet again,” a NSWRA representative said.
The association expects the Commonwealth will make its case to the court in 29 August, and the NSWRA will respond with its submission on 3 September.
All parties may then attend the court on 6 September to present further arguments, and the judge’s decision might be handed on that day.
However, he may elect to retire to consider the details, handing down his decision on a later date.
