Michael Diamond and Russell Mark will front their sixth Olympics Games, following confirmation that they’ll make the Australian shooting team for the London in a few weeks time.
They’ll be shooting trap and double trap respectively, while Suzy Balogh will be shooting women’s trap and Warren Potent will line up in the men’s 50m rifle events.
Their places were confirmed yesterday by Australian International Shooting’s CEO, Nick Sullivan, but the full team won’t be officially named until next month.
The four have all won medals at previous Olympics and they’ll ensure the shooting squad carries the biggest weight in gold, silver and bronze as the Aussies head to London, an honour they’ll share with the swimmers.
Adam Vella, Lalita Yauhleuskaya, Dina Aspandiyarova, Hayley Chapman and Althea Sedgman are highly likely to make the shooting team, too.
Russell Mark recently lost a bet over a football result, for which he promised to wear a mankini at the opening ceremony of the Games. Shooters are wondering whether he’ll be man enough – or even permitted – to go through with it.
