Four Corners: The Hunting Party

The ABC will next week air a Four Corners report titled “The Hunting Party”, examining the rising popularity of the sport and introduction of hunting in NSW national parks.

“Would you allow your child to use a gun to hunt and kill animals?” the program’s producers ask in the opening to their introduction to the episode.

“Many hunters say they do it to get back to nature and to source fresh meat,” they write. “While they put ethics and safety first, it’s the rogue hunter that is the problem.”

Reporter Matthew Carney follows some hunters into the field, and will also look at issues such as gun laws, the rise of the Shooters & Fishers Party the idea that “less experienced people are acquiring a licence to kill”.

It will be televised in NSW on Monday, 10 June at 8.30pm on ABC1, then replayed the next day at 11.35pm.

It will also be aired on ABC News 24 at 8pm the following Saturday, on ABC iview and at abc.net.au/4corners.
